you seem to have the focal ranges covered..
unless you get a prime, a zoom upgrade might end up replacing one of the two lenses you have. for example, the 17-85 IS would likely replace your 18-55 kit once and for all.
the 50mm/1.8 would be my suggestion until you learn with those lenses and upgrade to better ones.

Bobb75,
Learn your camera and go take some images. Find the focal lenghts that you seem to use the most. Find out what kind of photography you want to do. Save some money up. Then come back and tell us how much you are wanting to spend and what you are planning on shooting. The 50 1.8 is not a bad suggestion. It is only $80.00. It will give you a feel for primes.

Agree with Ryan ^^^ Go out and take some pictures!
Get to know your camera, and if you feel the desperate need to upgrade a lens, then you will know your shooting style and subjects more and maybe make a better decision.

You have well more than enough gear to make nice photos. You need to work on your photography skills more than anything else right now. I would think, however, your next addition would be a flash.

Another excellent addition to your kit (if you haven't already got one) is a tripod.

Flash is a huge part of a kit!

This is as close as I can come to "all round use" (which covers way too much territory), or give us an idea what your budget is?
Using your avatar as a clue, I'd suggest the 70-200 f/4:

Radio Controlled Boats (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=101101)

And based on some of your other posts you'll want a macro of some sort..... Looks like the two extreme ends of the spectrum.

As already reccommended in earlier post, I would go for the 50mm 1.8 prime with your existing lenses and get shooting. Find the area of interest and if its landscapes go L for the 17-40 L lens, if its motion go for the 70-200f4, all dependent on your budget of course. Good luck.

I vote for the Canon 28-135 IS
I am totally satisfied with the images I have gotten using that lens, and the price is right!
A great lens!!
