Beautiful photo, shame about the vaseline on your lens, it's made the image quite soft :p I might crop the top a little

I would whiten her teeth a little. Otherwise, I like it very much.

I love it and I agree with others that the softness works.. it is not too soft in my oppinion! Just right. Very well done!

(Agree that whitening the teeth would make it even better)

Is there a good way to whiten teeth? I have tried before and it came out looking like they had chickletts stuck in their faces (like on Rat Race, John Cleese)

For whitening teeth and eyes I'll normally just select the teeth (or whites of the eyes) using the magic wand then feather the selection by 2 or 3 pixels. I then select the red channel and press Ctrl V to copy the red channel selection. I then selecyt the RGB channel again and then Ctrl V to paste the selection to a new layer. I reduce the opacity of this layer to suit.

I also like the softness. It makes it look more romantic. The teeth comment is right on. The color detracts for the overall impression. The fixed listed look like good bets.

For teeth I just select then feather 2-3px. then completely desaturate the yellow using HUE/Saturation then go to MASTER and brighten a little.

I love the image. I've re-worked it a little bit. She was not on one of the composition golden mean points ... so I made it into a step-mount to put her on the upper right 3rd quadrant. I also brightened and opened up her eyes.

For teeth this works for me very nicely:

In photoshop, create a new layer on top of the photo image.
Set its blending mode to 'color'.
With a soft paintbrush and an almost white gray, paint on top of the teeth.
Set the transparency of the layer to suit your taste.
Looks great!!

Joel

I hope you don't mind I used your image as an example:

The easiest way to brighten teeth, and take out yellow, is to make a dupe layer. Then use Hue-Saturation and take the slider to the left till it looks good. Then add a layer mask in hide all. Use a white brush and paint away the yellow. Now if you click on the thumnail for the top layer (not the layer mask) and use Image > Adjustments > Curves and slide up from one of the points your teeth will get brighter. Watch and stop before you make them too bright. If you do go too far, just click the layer mask, and a black brush, to paint back in some density.

A technique I've used to good effect:

Create a levels adjustment layer,
move the sliders WAY to the left to make it grossely over-lightened
Add a mask
Press the 'D' for default color selection
Mask everything with the eraser
Unmask only the teeth. Ok, they will look REALLY bad at this point
Play with the opacity slider for the levels layer until it looks right.Be aware that when you play with the opacity slider, the tendency will be to make them too white. What seems to work for me is to put the slider where it looks right, then slide it just "that much more" to the left to dimish the effect a little more.

From start to finish, this tends to take about 15 to 20 seconds.
