Hello I'm looking at purchasing the Canon A80. However I have one problem i'm currently living in Japan and all the software is in Japanese. I have managed to download the manual but unfortunately i'm unable to find the software. My question is if the photo shop software is necessary or if I can do without it (i'm sure the drivers will be the same). Thanks

Vic

What do you mean by "photo shop" software?
The camera comes with 2 cds one with a third party photo sw called photoimpression (not nessecary if you have photoshop or another photo program) and the 2nd cd is 'Canon Digital Solutions ' containing drivers and Canon Sw for manipulating your camera on PC (like downloading photos, remote control your camera, change settings by software)
You don't actually need it (if you already have the drivers) although it has very useful features BUT the main advantage is that you can also Upload photos to A80 and there is no other way of doing it (if you don't have the canon sw) or if you have PClash reader

P.S A80 is a very good camera and I had no problem using it. I like it very much especialy the manual modes :D

you won't need the software. depends on your level of ability with your PC. the CDs are ok, but if you have your own image editing software, you're better off. as long as you have the drivers...

good points mentioned above.

A80 is an excellent piece :)

good luck!

If you want to use Stitch mode on your camera and then stitch all the photos back in the right order you will need the PhotoStich software from the CD's. (There maybe another way to do it with another program but Photostich is the only way I know of.)

Photostich is a really cool program and is easy to use. You don't really need a wide angle lens if you are willing to take two or more pictures and put them back together with Photostich.

I use Adobe Photoshop 6.0for editing and retouching.

I agree, use a cardreader to download your pictures, forget the Canon SW except Photostitch it rocks.

I originally had an A20 which was nicked, then an A70 which my son dropped an now have the A80. I only used the Canon software for a short time while using the A20 until I purchased a Cardreader.
