View Full Version : What program are you using to acquire RAW images?

I don't have Photoshop CS2. I don't like the naming convention for most programs that acquire photos from a card or camera. I don't oranize my library by date, but rather by the name of the shoot and then a date. WinXP does this automatically when using the Scanner and Camera Wizard but the wizard does not work with RAW files. I want a program that accomplishes the same thing so that when I import images I can do this:

Name the folder (within My Pictures) and have the images renamed to the folder name followed by an image number. It seems simple but almost all programs want to name the folder with a date and they make you go through a fe more steps if you do want to create an alternate name, but even if you do you can't end up with the images bearing the name of the folder with an image number.

I like this system because I find it very useful for identifying images and knowing what folder they are associated with. If every folder just has IMG_xxx.jpg it can be very confusing but if you name the folder 'The Park 10.24.06' and then each image is 'The Park 10.24.06_001.jpg, The Park 10.24.06_002.jpg......and so on, it makes so much more sense to me.

Anyone know of a program or method of acquiring images in this way?

I use Downloader Pro (http://www.breezesys.com/Downloader/index.htm). It does exactly what your asking for. Under preferences, enable prompt for job code (the name of shoot), and then use the formating symbols to name the folder and images. Also has a plugin to convert your RAW images to .dng as they are being downloaded. Hope that helps.
