I recently had an inquire about a wedding and I emailed the couple the contract. I then got a call from the wedding coordinator at the sight saying that they rarely let other photogphers on the premises (they have their own) They also said that they require photographers to have their own insurance. I asked what type of insurance and she didn't really know. I guess to cover you in case you trip and fall. Of course I have health insurance but does anyone have any extra insurance for this type of thing? Thanks

You're supposed to have liability insurance for your business, lest you run the risk of taking direct responsibility for any accidents that you might happen to cause, etc. in the course of doing your job.

She might also be referring to Workman's Compensation insurance, so that any of a studio's labor (camera man, assistants) are covered by the photographer's insurance company in case they fall down and injure themselves while on the job.

Hi Joanna, I'm in the process of getting liability insurance and also equiptment insurance right now. Plus if you are a member of the PPA they provide malpractice insurance. My husband and I have another small business so I know how important insurance is these days! You always have to cover your self!If you want to know what companies I'm using here on Maui just PM me...Aloha, Kim A.

Ours runs just over 20 dollars per month with a 500 dollar deductable.
This includes liability, and gear destruction coverage.

liability insurance is what you need, you can get it for sure, but i usually state in my contract that i am not liable for any thing that may go wrong on the day and they sign to that - making it a contract agree'd by all parties. I dont have it, no point for the few weddings i get a year...especially since im trying to say no to them all now lol
