flea-like crustacea with ten legs about 3mm long and shiny black to the naked eye.

Looks very premitive. Great captures :) Can't help you with the ID :(

Thanks I think it might be a 'Lawn Shrimp' or some other Terrestrial Amphipod.

Lovely pics- looks like a freshwater shrimp (gammarus sp) out of it's element.

Nice shots, as Brian says Freshwater Shrimp never seen one out the water before.

Definitely a Lawn Shrimp. This one was under a brick where I was looking for centipedes. It jumped off like a flea when I disturbed it.
