Here in Arabia, I was walking slowly through the mangroves a few days ago, Then I came face to face with this little heron, we both kinda froze, but I did get a few shots off before he turned and walked away. I had thought he was a Straited Heron but I'm not so sure. Can anyone please confirm his ID

Sure looks like a Green Heron but I never would have thought they were found in Arabia.

I agree. It's definitely an heron and does look more like the Green Heron, but in Arabia? very unusual.
Nice shot John, it's perfectly focused and beautifully composed.

Hi guys, thanks for your comments. my Book on Birds of The Middle East IDs the Little Green Heron & Green-Backed Heron Under the name of Striated Heron (Butorides Striated) I have captured shots previously of this bird, but my lastest picture above the heron has a longer kneck and different markings. Thats why I was a little unsure.
The next picture is an earlier capture.
Hi Tony, we have serveral types of heron pass over our coasts here.
