View Full Version : Extra part after re-assembling S400 :(

Hi,
I just completed replacing a cracked LCD screen in my S400. When I was popping the case open, a little plastic piece fell out, and so I didn't see where it came from. When I was done installing the new LCD, I spent an hour trying to figure out where the part went without success. I gave up and completed the re-assembly, and every function of the camera appears to work correctly...
I was hoping someone could either point me to a service manual, or even better, recognize where the piece goes?
Here are some photos of the part:

Thanks,
Josh

Similarly, I always have leftover parts when I'm done working on my car.
Just throw that extra piece away and don't drive your camera over 35 mph.

Does anyone at least have a photo of inside an S400, so hopefully I can spot where the extra part goes?
Thanks..

Dude - you deserve some kind of bravery award for even attempting a DIY repair job on such a small piece of hardware ! 8)
I wouldn't have thought any such thing as an IXUS400 service manual exists, at least not in the public domain anyway.

I don't know where it is now, but someone posted a site address here that had parts diagrams and exploded views of several Canon cameras. I think that the 400 was one of them.

Just go to the root of the link.. it's still there.
By the way,. the extra part?
It's the peaice that makes it so that S400 extreme close up shots of very small parts are in fact usable!

CDS, I tried, even going to the root and following all relevant links, it gives me a 404 page :(

Yes, the root works, but the links to Canon stuff are dead.

Wow - glad I found this forum! My 1 yr and 3 week old S400 just had the LCD die - everything works, just a blank LCD with a slight, faint bar viewable - I guess I am safe to assume the LCD is bad?
EoSD30fReAk, if you could forward me a copy of that manual I would surely appreciate it? TIA.

just wanted to know while we're at it...
wehere hyou got your spare LCD (for S400 (digital Ixus 400 ) ) ?
how much did it cost? , what is the spare part number ( if you know it ) ..
because i juste broke down mine, and since last time i took it straight to canon repair center and it costed 90$ of tech time, and that now the guarantee is now void, and i know how to replace the screen myself... i would really be interested if it's worth doing it myself or not...

Hi ! ,
for the Extra Part, you can get it from here ( only place i found to get it , since canon wont sell replacement parts, ) ..
i had a great service and it cost me only 43,95 $ USD to get it back in shape ( for broken lcd)
it is easy to replace.. but you need a) to remember where all the screw go and b) there's nothing to pry out or something be gentle ..
and don't worry this is not a cheap thirdparty lcd.... they sell the same exact model from the same company as the canon factory lcd screen ( Sony made)
www.huroncamera.com
item # : Canon-BM-WG2-5243
Description : Canon Power Shot S400 LCD SCREEN
hope it helps you ...
and for the manual Aussie, i can send it to your -email if you wish i got it on my computer the Exploded view of the canon s400 camera...
but it's not that difficult to disassemble i found it rather easy...
remember one thing, if it's glued don't try to pull ..
and another one to replace the lcd screen you need to get off both the front and back cover of the camera so it's completely naked you'll have to remove 90% of the outside showing screws ;)
have fun ..

Hi, My lcd died on S400 and i am trying to replace the lcd. Can any one send me the manual PLEASEEEEEEE.
PM me your e-mail address and I will send you some detailed instructions that I wrote up for replacing the LCD on an S400. I can send it when I get home tonite.
BTW, there are two parts that make up the LCD assembly. A backlight, and the LCD itself. If you are getting a white screen, then the backlight is still working and you will only need to replace the LCD itself.

To the Moderator
Am I just stupid or what, jsalit's post original contained two pictures(?) which I just see as a box with a "x" mark in them. Am I incorrectly configured? Thanks for your help.

I've just received my replacement LCD direct from Canon Canada (less than $75 CDN, including shipping). I'm wondering if someone could send me the manual referenced throughout this thread? If would be GREATLY appreciated!

I'm working on my S400 also and have this exact spare part in my hands.
You mention you have the manual; could you e-mail me a copy at perron.a@sympatico.ca please, this would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Moppie, thought I'd give you a try
I'm working on my Canon S400 also and have this same spare part in my hands.
Since your online and that you took part in the forum on this past issue (like 4 years ago), I'm taking a chance at the possibility that you might be able to help me locate a manual for my S400 or pass this on to someone that may have a solution to my spare part.
Regards, perron.a@sympatico.ca

Hey Tom
You took part in a forum a few years back on the subject of a spare part out of a Canon S400; I'm confronted with the same issue as I took my camera apart earlier today to reset it by removing internal battery. Can you help?
Regards, perron.a@sympatico.ca

Same problem, same request. If you still have the manual, i would appreciate a copy.
I suspect canon includes the part just to confuse DIY people, trying home repairs.
