Surprisingly, there is a spring fed waterfall in the middle of suburban Thousand Oaks, Ca. It has not rained here for months, yet this 70 foot fall keeps on chugging. Let me know what you think :)

Afternoon, about 3:00 pm. I had shadows across the falls for awhile, finally the sun went above the falls, leaving me in total shadow.

Do you have some more that shows the falls in their area. I find they are a bit to cropped. 70Ft is a big distance but the vertical photo does not reflect its height IMHO.
I love waterfall photos

I do have some shots, but they are blown out above the falls, there was bright sunlight with deep shadows :( Ideally, I would like to be there at 7:00am or 5:00pm to get an even shot

What about using a Gradual ND filter? Stop the top been blown out. Overcast days are great for waterfalls

Its funny you say that, I packed my ND filters, but left the graduated at home for some reason. This was my first trip to these falls, I will be better prepared next time ;)

I always go to a set falls unknowing what I will find. The first trip leaves you with the awe and wonder feeling. The second trip you know what to expect and what you will need. I often go to most falls in the middle of winter to see how they have changed with a lot of rain. Summer time is hiking time to find the ones of the beaten track.

I was surprised that this one flows as good as it does with zero rainfall

One of my challanges with waterfalls in as I walk up stream I hit there walls and the only way is to get wet as there are pools at the bottom. Havnt worked out a method yet to keep my gear from getting wet. Our area is very slippery and dense tree growth so it makes it more intresting.
I like the idea of finding waterfalls most people will never see in a life time. Im hoping to do a book on them. Its about a 5 year project.

Getting the colours to pop. Where I am the greens and the browns seem to merge into each other. Our trees dont loose there leave in Autum. On my pbase site there are some earlier photos and the colours are bland. Shoot at f16 all the time tripod and filters depending on the sun.

I like using the landscape color style, it gives the waterfalls alot of pop. What levels of USM do you use

They are good calicokat, but I think they could be even better with a bit of foreground interest, which would also give some sense of scale :)

A bit of a harsh light, much better if you visit it again for another shot.
Preferably on a cloudy day, this way you will not have many shadows to worry about.

We should have some cloudy days in a few months, its terrible here in SoCal, too much sun

I am using 100, 0.3 and 1. Its unnoticeable on screen, but helps the prints a tad. I do not like too much PP
Those are nice shots!
Thank you :)
