Hi all,

i've got a wedding tomorrow, and although i've been doing some PR work in the music industry for quite a while now and i'm comfortable with the candids, i just wanted to see if any of you guys had any tips for the the following two scenarios:-

1. The formals; where's the best place to get everyone lined up? I've visited the location already and the only real place where they'd be suitable would be an area of grass. The area's big enough to accomodate everyone i'm sure but there are trees just behind the area and i'm slightly worried about the shadows falling over the group and marring the shots somehow. Also, the sun. I think i'm going to be shooting into it, or at least it's going to be fairly high in the sky and coming from over their shoulders. I'm assuming that the backlight/toplight will benefit the shots as long as i meter for the faces correctly? Am i right? Any tips?

2. The reception's in a marquee, a typical white marquee. Any tips for this. I'm again assuming that the inside is going to be like some sort of giant light tent, so during the day the light should be great but in the evening i expect something different. Do you guys think that bounce off the roof will be useful with my 580?

1. Speckled light bad, or different lighting in general. Get them anywhere else. You can't really blur out the background because you need plenty of DOF for the group shots.
2. Try bouncing, watch the histogram. Extend your white card.

Check, and check - thanks Tim.

I'm right to keep the sun behind them though aren't i?

Yep, but use your flash, FEC maybe +1.

I just did a reception in a tent, bouncing did not work. I had to use direct flash, and I diffused it....with a strip of waxpaper! Worked just fine, diffuses it just enough to keep it from looking too flashd, but doesn't drain your batteries!
But now I'm looking at buying a flip it!

good luck

What was the color of the tent fabric? Was it light colored or dark? If dark, I completely understand the problem. Where I loose it is if the fabric was light colored and the bounce still didn't work - I just don't understand that. Can you help me out a little more? Thanks.
