The last week and a half I've been planning days to go shoot with my buddy downtown, but of course it rains whenever I want to do so. A few days back on the way home from school there was this huge field of what I think was Canadian Geese. It was the oppertunity to photo birds I'de been wanting (or is it ducks, I know very little in this area), so I get home, grab my camera, and bam, it starts raining. Today I made plans with my buddy from downtown as it was supose to not rain too much, and it decides to instead rain pretty much all day.
Tommorow I want to go to the ZOO, but once again, it looks like its going to ran.
The worst part is, my new glass came today (70-200 F4L, 85 1.8.) Man, I am getting really really frusterated with this weather.

I want to shoot landscape of the city, and wild life :(. Bleh, I should pick up a flash and shooting table so I can do some neat stuff in the house. I just didn't bother buying a flash becasue as long as the weather is warm I want to go shooting outside.

I know how you're feeling. This past week and a half has been the best time for fall foliage pictures around here but it has been raining virtually everyday. I wait all year for this and blah.

Don't worry too much about a flash, it's subdued lighting you need for indoor shots (flash will usually cause you blown highlights if you're not careful).
Just get some fairly bright bulbs shining through muslin or thin paper and you'll be fine. Play with white balance to suit and you'll be up and running in no time.
Well, until the rain stops anyway...

Yeah I should pick up a gery card.
My room has absolutely crap lighting, even at f1.8 and ISO 1000 I'm shooting at like 1/20.
What else is pissing me off is that even though it's raining, there is no lighting, so I can't make an attempt at shooting lighting. I mean I really want to get some lightning photographs, but it's not easy when there is no lightning.
I should get a remote shutter release for my 30D. I see the RC-8023 or something for sale everywhere, but that's for Rebels only I believe. The Canon retail one is kind of expensive and too extravagent for my needs, so I want to pick up one of those aftermarket ones.

You don't really need a remote shutter release. you can just use the self timer and a little bit of patience.
Buy yourself one of those bright work-lights (or steal one off your parents), that should give you enough lighting in your roon to work with.
It'll be interesting to see what you come up with...

What are these work lights your talking about? Those bright lamps that you place on a table (not a traidtional light though.) I have one, but it is powerful, I remember leaving some plastic leaning over on the lamp with the lamp on and it burning the plastic. Very hot if you touch it too.

I've got something like this. A bright Halogen light for helping out with painting/diy when I want a bright light to work by.

Wow, I don't think I have space for that. I was speaking of like a small lamp that you put on your desk to read your books.

My one IS pretty small. The main unit is about 6in x 4in or so. Just take a look at your local hardware store and you should see one. Or you could just get a couple of normal 100W bulbs.

Oh, looked more like 3-4 feet in that photo. How much do they run?

Hey! I'll take your rain! We are desperate for rain in this part of the world. We can't even turn a tap on outside of the house because we are on severe water restrictions :(

Yeah ouch is right :(
Here is a pic of my local lake that used to be the towns water supply. You used to be able to fish here and the park rangers/fisheries organisations used to keep it stocked purely for fishing pleasure. You'd be hard pressed to find fish here now. When I first moved here a few years ago, the resevoir was full of water, in just under 3 years it's dwindled to this.

Wow. Is there some sort of christ going on in Australia? Like some global warming problems with the equator or something that is affecting you guys? I knew it was dry in Austrlaia, but never knew it was this bad.

JaGWiRE yes there is quite a national crisis when it comes to water supply over here. We're doing all we can to help support our farmers and such but there really isn't a lot we can do until the heavens decided to open up for a long period of regular and heavy rainfalls. I don't see that happening for awhile though.

Careful! They are very hot after a few seconds. I use them in the garage for car detailing. I would think that they would be a little harsh for indoor photography. Let us know how you did with them.
