On my old Canon 400 the images were put in folders in groups of 100... and between ties I erased the memory card the images still continued to be put in progressing folders... but my new SD700 seems to always put teh images into the \DCIM\100CANON folder even when image numbers are over 100... and when I erase the memory card the numbers also starts back at 0 causing overwrite problems when I lod to my PC so I have ot manually create separate directories. I have not been able to find ANY setting to get the 700 to work like the 400 did... Does anyone know how I can set it to always use incremental file numbering and new directories after each 100?

If you go into the menus on your camera you can set it to Continuous numbering so there are never duplications of numbers.
Depending on the program you use to acquire the images from the camera or card you have the ability yo name directories and files along with numbering that suits you and also avoids duplicates.
I have been through this myself.

Thanks, Rbert.. but mine IS set for continuous numbering... and it does number continuously... but they are all in the 100CANON folder on the memory card. If I take 600 pictures on this SD700 ALL 600 will be put in the 100CANON folder by teh camers... on my old Canon 400 camera, they would have been split into 6 folders AUTOMATICALLY by the camera... 100CANON, 200CANON, 300CANON, etc.
I know I can rename whatever I want... BUT, I don't want to... I want to pop the car dinto my card reader, MOVE the folders to my hard drive folder and be DONE. I do not want to have to manually spend 5-10 minutes messing with changing file and folder names to avoid conflicts every time I archive my photos...
Anyone know why the 700 works diferent than the 400?
