OK

.. let me know what you think (be honest, if you think they're terrible say so please)

i've posted them on my .mac site
here is a link
Link:
http://web.mac.com/d.quinn/iWeb/d.quinn/Photos.html

a few photo-illustrations are thrown in there along with some things i took on vacation and some portraits.. anyway i'm using a rebel xt (20d on the way) and a 70-300 4-5.6 and a kit lens

The XT is a capable camera. Being in high school, your money would be better spent on a better lens. The 75-300 is not a sports lens and is soft from 200-300mm. It is really a low end starter lens.

If you were to ask in the Lens Forum, you could probably be suggested a lens given your budget and needs.

I agree totally about the lens, but I really got a good deal on the 20 D and will be selling my 350d for some glass

As I've learned with my 18 year old daughter -- you already know it all and will do what you want. That being said, nice photo portfolio.

Technically speaking, your pictures arent great. I think some better glass will help you a lot with that. On the other hand, I like your composition a lot.
Good work =)

chaosbunny - Took a quick look at your work. You are hitting about 85% on content in your shots. Way above average for someone at your experience level. There is an undefineable quality to certain photographers who manage to see and shoot the exact instant that has the most impact. We call it "having the eye". It is a gift, something your are born with. I suspect you might be one of the lucky ones. I said 'suspect', time will tell.
As you know, PJ embraces two skills, the visual and written/verbal. One is always stronger as they require different and complex thinking. I believe you have a good start on the visual.
It is a tough profession (what isn't), but I have a young friend who just finished her degree and is working as staff on a newspaper in Naples Florida. She paid her dues, and now is getting it all back in a good career start.
Long critique eh? My wife and I shoot for money with 20D's and we think it is one of the better all round cameras today.
Best of luck.

I like the compositions of your shots... you obviously enjoy taking photo's of the things you do, and have had a bit of practice at it. Some of them are slightly underexposed but with more practice you will overcome that. If you spend the money on buying the L series lenses as well as the 20D (I would not recommend the 30D for sports) you will go extremely well in photojournalism.

(But hey I'm no professional, I'm still in highschool myself)

Considering your age, inexperience, and the lens you used, these are pretty good. When you shoot sports, concentrate on three things, namely capturing facial expressions, getting the ball in the frame, and clicking the shutter at the moment of peak action.
