Anyone have experience good or bad dealing with B&H online? I see they have very good prices but 200.00 less than Wolf? Seems a little too good to be true. Please put down your comments or suggest other sites to buy from.
Thx

They are great. I have bought from them for the past 5 years and not once did they mess up anything. I have even bought one of their "demo" specials and it was perfect.
Highly recommend them. I''m in Los Angeles by the way.....
Good luck, Rod

I have had very good luck with B&H. I always call in my order though, so they can check stock to see if it is actually in stock. Sometimes the web is a bit behind.
Always have had good shipping and service from them.
Wolf however, always seems to be high and they charge tax to texas residents....since they have locations in texas..

I've never had any trouble with B&H or Adorama.
Now, there is another company which shall remain nameless, but its initials are Broadway Camera. I don't believe that I can say anything good about them.

B & H is the arguably the largest photographic retailer on the planet. I heard that revenues last year were somewhere around US$950M! With that kind of revenue, you can bet they can offer better discounts than competitors. So, they've gotta be doing something right.

I've spent far too many paychecks at B+H and never had a problem with them. They even e mail me a UPS return label if something they send me is defective. They have a two week no hassle return policy on photo gear.

I've had lots of dealings with B&H and never had one problem. As a matter of fact, I'm getting ready to order another lens from them today.

B&H great company to deal with they're my first choice when looking for equipment, I've spent at least a couple of grand with them in the year 2003.
For back up I go local or to Samy's camera out of the LA area.

You might be able to find better prices than B&H, but you won't find better reliability and customer service. Shipping is fast - typically I receive my order within 2-3 days, and this is ground! I returned a lens to them once with no hassle. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them.

check out bizrate.com. They have over 50,000 reviews posted with nearly all being positive. Something like 96% last time I looked. You can't go wrong.

Excellent feedback
You should all be paid for advertising. I'm on my way to return my Canon 100 2.0 lense that I paid 560.00! for and buy it for 367.00!!!!!!!!!

I too had a great experience. Ordered several items via internet on first night of Hanukkah (19th) and received everything by the 22nd of December. The website was a little slow in getting status of order, but when I called, I got a customer service rep with no wait time and was very helpful and curtious. I also have walked into Unique Photo and Beach Camera - Unique very close to my house and Beach Close to work - In my opinion, Unique is more willing to help and take their time explain

The only other company I have dealt with is www.buydig.com
Bought my D60 from them, delivered the next day.
Bought my 70-200 f2.8 IS from them, received it in 18 hours.
I live in Texas, they are in New York. I was very much impressed.
I have not had any problems. All were US warranty cards. No sales pitches, bait and switch etc. I did ask a lot of questions, but they were on the up and up.

Only thing that lets them down as far as I'm concerned is that they never seem to reply to emails. I've sent three enquiring about items but never hear back. Hence I've never had the pleasure of actually ordering anything for them yet.

Wow! I've sent them numerous emails and can't remember not getting a reply. If you have a problem in the future contact Harry Posner. He frequents newsgroups and forums and gets results!

Hi,
I have nothing but praise for B&H! I have spent well, in excess of $4000 there and they rock! Here's the some of the stuff I got from them...
Sigma 120-300 F2.8EX ($1900)
Canon 16-35 F2.8L ($1380)
FlashTrax drive and stuff ($700)
I will be placing another order with them for in that range when I can get some money together. I have no problem ordering with them and they definitely get my kick @$$ award nomination. Another bit, they get it over here to England in usually 5 days too! I got the 10D from RitzCamera and I'm kinda not too sure about them anymore. I have heard a lot of not so hot stuff about RitzCamera. It would help if some of their flunkies could speak English too. I had that pronblem with them. They also tempted me to go Nikon, but already having Canon lenses it was really daft. They were cheap lenses, but that isn't the point. I am glad I stuck to Canon. I knew enough to outsmart the flunkie so their 2nd hand Jedi mind tricks failed on them! :)

For as long as I can remember, B&H has been dominant - the most comprehensive product listings in photography journals, the best camera store in NYC to browse through, the best online shopping experience for camera gear, and nearly fautless service.
I would think B&H would charge a little extra for being so good and highly rated - but they typically have very competitive, if not the lowest prices around. FWIW - that's been my own experience. Did I mention that I buy almost exclusively from these guys - and standard delivery to my front door by UPS takes 1 or 2 days :D
They're closed on Saturdays...Like I said, almost faultless service.

Comments on B&H
They charge credit card immediately even if item is backordered.
They will sometimes *telephone reverify* orders to your home number.
They will *always* require signature on deliveries.
On new stuff, EVERYONE orders from them, so waiting list on 1D replacement will be BIG.
Owners are orthodox Jews. Store is closed on Jewish holidays and Saturdays.
My experience:
I buy everything from there (but use phone)
Only returned one item: The girlfriend wanted a different color camera! Return was trouble free.
I did buy my 10D from a local shop: Because B&H wait list was too long! All the accessories, however, came from B&H (local shop could not come CLOSE to matching price => even with overnight shipping!)
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I never had any problems, and always try them first. I do everything online unless item states limited supply.
I also bought my 10D at a local shop becuase they have such a wait list. I do give my local shop a chance at most items but B&H is very highly recomended.

Now you know where all the B&H salesmen hang out when they aren't selling.
Yep, another happy customer of B&H. I bought my 10D elsewhere because they were out of stock and I bought my EOS 3 from Samy's Camera because B&H was closed for one of their holidays and it got me to call a few other places. It turned out that Samy's had a special shipment of EOS 3's and I got it for a lot less than B&H had it for. So I always check Samy's as well, but probably 95% of my small and large ticket items I've bought through B&H... all online. The only time I had to call was something was left out of an order (the freebie light stand that came with my studio lights) and they had it to me real fast.
And since they switched from Fed-X to UPS as prime shipper they do deliver without a signiture required... which is great since our UPS guy knows us real well (well, he knows our dogs real well, but then all the carriers know our dogs  ) and we have a good secure place to leave stuff for the few times that someone isn't there to get it.
Ok you guys, get back to answering the phones. :D

I recieved an order from them today, right on schedule. Just a bunch of little stuff; flash diffuser, film (chemical memory), extension tube, and a couple of other things. I've had good luck with them and I'll go there again.
OK, in fact, I did go there again today. I just ordered a 10D which is presently in stock. And some CF memory. I'm anxious for my new camera!!

They always ship UPS on my deliveries and *never* require signatures. Maybe this is address dependent.

Me too, except I bought mine from Adorama which is a pretty darn good shop too IMO.

Adorama is very good as well. I've also bought from KEH, who has an extensive used-equipment selection. They are out of digital Canon cameras, however. So, B&H gets my business this time.

I agree with all here that say B&H is a safe bet. They are very knowledgeable, fair, and very competitive on price. Also, they don't pull any bait-n-switch crap.
Another good NY retailer is J&R:
http://www.jandr.com/JRSectionView.process?RestartFlow=t&Section_Path=/Cameras_and_Optics/
Their selection isn't nearly as extensive as B&H, but they do sometimes have better prices on certain items, and the same good business ethic.

Pwelco-
The only reason I'm replying is to welcome another Portlander.
But I ordered my DR and a lense, filters from B&H after waiting two weeks from a local company. And I received my order via UPS through the snow storm last week. Knowledgable salesperson helped me - although I called to make sure they had the camera in stock.
Good luck,
Dave

B&H is the best camera store that I have ever purchsed items from. I have probably purchased $30,000 worth of items from them over the years. I buy used, new and refurbs and have never had a bad transaction that was not taken care of by them. Sometimes the the person on the phone may sound a bit gruff but that appears to be a New York thing. They have never been rude to me. I have nothing bad to say about them. I'll pay a little more to go to them rather than some of the sleazy Brooklyn outfits.

Hello,
I recently bought at BH online my EF 70-200 2.8. I received it (in Italy) after about 10 days (dec 31 was in the middle).
No problem at all.
Hopefully might help. Good luck!

Hey Davege, Thanks
Based on all the positive responses here I ordered a Canon - 100mm f/2.0 USM EF Lens along with a 256 flash card, and lense hood. They all came as ordered in 3 days! Perfect condition and without a doubt a great place to buy. I had returned the lense I bought in town and saved 200.00! which is why I bought more stuff.
Thanks for all your input!

Last Friday I ordered my Sigma 80-400OS and a filter.
Allready on Wednesday they were in Holland (The Netherlands) to be delivered on Thursday, the filter one day later.
And I choose the 3-5 day delivery, amazing speed.
Great tracking system.
I think they are superb, and this will probarbly not be my last buy.

I ordered a 17-40 f/4L and OP/TECH Pro loop camera strap from them last Saturday on their website. Between being closed saturday and MLK holiday (Martin Luther King's birthday is a holiday here in the USA) I finally got the packages on Thursday. I'm not complaining, just preparing you for possible delays. The stuff was top notch. My only quibble is that they could have packaged the items in the same box and saved me a few dollars on shipping. However, they claim that items come from different locations / warehouses, so I guess that's not out of line.

I just bought a 17-40L from B&H. I live in Newfoundland, Canada. I ordered online Monday night. It was shipped on Tuesday, and I received it today(Friday). That is Excellent!! I can't get equipment in my own country that fast!! Not to mention the price. Last year I purchased a 70-200 4L, and had it shipped to a friend that was travelling to Canada. That purchase also went perfectly.

There's nothing wrong with your browser... this thread is approximately 30 months old (back from the dead like a zombie, yeah) and it seems likely that the ampersands got messed up somewhere along the way. Perhaps it happened during an upgrade of the vB software, or during a database restore?
