View Full Version : Shooting Table?

Okay, so I just changed the light fixture in my room to a nice one (can post photo later if anybodies interested) that has 4x50 watt bulbs that can be pointed in any direction. The fixture is in the center of the ceiling, and the center of the room has nothing there. I can point the lights straight down and get pretty bright lighting. I'm looking at buying a shooting table, preferabley something that can fit decent sized items and can be folded up for when I'm not using it. I'de like it if it could be found in Canada or at bhphoto for less then $200 or so. I know very little about shooting tables, so if you would like to share your knowledge go ahead.

Would not a standard small folding table do? You could buy those at most party places.

I want something that will work well with lighting and have a nice white background. All this fancy plexiglass stuff sure looks nice, although I don't really know much. I think a lot of the product shots people do here are done on shooting tables though?

CDI, must it be on a table, or could you put it on like the carpet in the center of my room?

I'd imagine it could go anywheres flat and stable, but it'll totally depend on your lighting as to where you position this. I'm into product photography and really do need to pick one of these up eventually.

Mine was on a storage tub for awhile to get it to waist height, then I just started putting it on the floor. Doesn't really matter where it goes as long as you can put your lights where you need them. They call it a "tabletop" because there are bigger, standalone versions that cost more.

Ahh... I see what you mean. I built my own though. Probably not as good, but works for me. As long as the background is smooth and crinkle free... I am happy.

I was thinking about selling mine since it's been stored under a bed a good bit lately, but I don't think I could afford to ship it at a reasonable rate to make it worth buying. B&H has the benefit of being UPS' lover...deep discounts on shipping even bigger bulkier items.

Well, maybe we can work something out. My sister is going to New York in November, but I doubt she'll brign me back the table. If your willing to ship to Canada, we should talk. If I buy from bh I'll pay as much as the table costs to ship it probably.

I'd have to see what it'd cost. Let me pack it up as if I'd be shipping it (gotta find a good box first!) and see if it'd be worth your while, or even mine. I'd definitely be using UPS or USPS Express though since I'd have to be able to track something like this.

USPS would be the way. I guess it'de be too big for one of those flat rate services. I have had VERY large things like a huge Belkin power conditioner sent to me though (like 30 pounds and big dimensions) and it was only around $45 USD in shipping. USPS airmail parcel post I believe.

Make sure you try to get it in a box as snug as possible, if the box is very large, they'll charge you for that, even if you have a pencil inside.

Thanks by the way. I'm sure it'de do fine on the floor, as long as I'm willing to get down. If not I guess I could find something to put it on.

I know how to pack and ship. I do it daily. :p

I apologize then. Sometimes people who ship me stuff cannot find a box the right size at home to ship their item, like with my huge cd player, so they go and find a really really large box and begin stuffing it with stuff, which runs the shipping bill up.
