It doesn't look like much in the way of usefulness. Probably crappy optics too. It is manual focus, probably manual aperture. At f8 maximum aperture, it would be a dark view while trying to focus. The 2x teleconverter would drop the useable aperture to around f16 :(
Basically it would only be useful in direct sunshine with fast film. Don't waste your money...

LOL Because people will buy them.. I can't see a make specified, but these $100 wonders usually come with plastic lenses.
This thing is f/32 at 500mm.. Add the doubler and wow.. talk about SLOW.. It won't have any autofocus and you'll need a tripod even when shooting in the brightest conditions..

I think you are mistaken. The widest aperature appears to be f/8.

I thought I saw it was from Phoenix... I've seen some really cheap stuff from them, but can't imagine the stuff being any good.
Although not related to DSLRs, I think there was lots of discussion about them on the G-series camera for additional lenses.

I actually own this comparably ugly thing:

Its a 600 mm f/8 Vemar. I hadn't heard of it before, but it was free so I got a $14 adapter and mounted it on the FT. Its not very useful, nor is it very sharp, but it does pass light. :)
I wonder if I should paint it white.... :D

Hahaha. it would be worth it just for the looks you would get.
You should paint it and go out with a friend to where there are loads of pro's and take photos of their expressions as he dashes around with it :D
You know, it has a metal housing, and a metal screw-in cap. I just might give painting a try. I'll have to be careful to mask off the focus and aperture rings, but I think it might be worth painting, given the fact that it was free. :D

Don't forget to put a red rubber band just behind the lens filter....gotta have that red stripe

And tom's comments reminded me of a customer i saw in cash converters yesterday-i could see his body stiffen as he saw a big white zoom lens with red ring....unfortunately it was a cosina zoom, lol.
I had one of these lenses very briefly. It had about the same contrast ,resolution and colour as a 500mm mirror lens.(i.e pretty bad but still...occasional shots come out great)
By the way,you see these things 2nd hand in cash converters all the time for $20-50.The same lenses are made in pheonix, titar and many other brand names.

Come, Come, this forum is renowned for its knowledge, friendliness coupled with a tinge of humour and in any case I would never have thought about the red rubber band

Skuntz, so far you have 2 posts and they're both bashing people for asking questions or answering them. If *you* don't have something useful to say, then don't say anything.
