Well i wasnt aware of how cheap these things are going now. I feel like i payed too much, i mean B&H sells these for the same price used i payed for it. W/O the memory card though. What are these going for now? Did i get riped off? Its a used XT, black, with a 1gig card, slightly used.

Also why do the black units go for more than the silver?

I wouldn't say that was a bad deal. If B&H has the same price but without the CF card, you got a 1gig card free. As to the black vs. silver, I would guess its just because the black seems to be in higher demand.

because they look more 'professional' than the silver counterparts... atleast that's the theory the silver ones are about a hundred bucks or so cheaper.. But, my cousin has a silver one and I don't really see what the big deal is either. I bought a black one because that's what the shop had available.. I have heard that the black ones resell a little easier than the silver... but, it shouldn't really make a difference either way..

My 300D is silver, and my XT is black... so I'm not prejudiced!

The silver bodies don't blend nicely with the lenses.

do they scuff easy too?

I seem to recall seeing a very scuffed silver body. might just be down to the owner tho!

I don't see why canon or whomever wouldn't just make all the body's in black. After all thats the color of 99% of the lenses.

I haven't figured out that one either, since no one seems to want the silver ones. And they're hard to get rid of on the resale market from what I've observed.

You've gotten a nice camera, free memory card (Ultra II at that) from what looks like a good seller on eBay. I think you got a nice deal. The seller also seems like he has taken care of the camera, look at those manuals in original packaging! And warranty left on the camera! I dont know how Canon handles warranties when you are not the original seller, you may want to find out if there is anything else you need from the seller while the whole transaction process is taking place.

I would have asked how many clicks it has on it, but since february... Dont worry about it. Enjoy your new camera.

Silver appeals to P&S owners.

And OP you didn't get a bad deal.

$500 is not a bad price. As to the black/silver question, B&H charges $10 more for the black. I am sure it is simply a supply and demand issue. I would not sweat the $10.

Color is such a funny thing. There usually is no rational reason behind color decisions. Here at work we manufacture phones. They were all black and sometimes silver, and worked great. One day one of those marketing types walked in and said, “ya know, this would work better if it was red and blue.” We engineers just looked at him as if he had horns. Well, out went red and blue and pink and sales for pink phones skyrocketed. Outside of color there is absolutely no difference in the phone but folks perceived them as being better and were willing to plop down extra cash just to have a pink phone.

As pointed out in this thread by others, folks perceive that professionals have black phones and amateurs use to only P/S cameras have silver. Its just another way to say “I’m cool, you suck.”

Yes I remember one of the first pink phones coming out last year and everyone went so mad for them!

Could you imagine the looks you would get it you could get a canon body in pink! haha!
