No, not in an illegal way... ;)

I am going to the USF bulls game (college football) saturday, and was wondering if i could get some tips on getting my 70-200L on my XT thru the gate.

The website says no lenses longer than 12", and my lens and camera only comes to around 11", so i was thinking about printing the paper and bringing it with me in case there any problems...
http://www.raymondjames.com/stadium/policies.htm

but.... to keep me from having to walk all the way back to my car, does anyone have any expirience with getting these babies thru the gate without stirring up commotion with the security guards?

Thanks a bunch.

Lol. I'd be tempted just to take a superzoom compact. Maybe a Canon S3 IS as it has both IS and 12x zoom. On the other hand, it can make photography difficult as it has a shutter lag.

A wife (or even date) who carries a large purse is always useful (or so thinks my husband...)

might have a problem with the white lens ;p! just kidding of course ...

i had no trouble bringing my old 300D and 75-300 f4-5.6 USM to a day game. i guess leave the lens hood at home so it doesnt look too intimidating.

I was thinking that, Maybe have the camera body on my shoulder and a jacket on, then the 70-200 in my mouth, or my shoe....

It is florida, so a big jacket may be a problem... lol.

I was thinking that too, the hood may just be too much.
Thanks all

Use a coffee cup lid in place of the lens cap and hold it vertically upright by the tripod mount shoe, lens front pointing upward, and tell them it's just your tall coffee mug.

So then, should he put his coffee mug on his camera? (I can't be seen without either cam or coffee so this is a most important question)

only problem being that outside drinks probably arnt allowed. so they will most likely confiscate it and throw it in the trash with a bunch of water bottles. :p

I think Belmondo has a franchise on that. If you haven't seen his L-mug, i'll see if I can dig it up, unless someone beats me to it <hint, hint>. :)

Why not just hide the camera, lens and all then there would be no reason for them to think anything.

Separate the lens from the camera is the best idea. Be sure to bring the printout of their rules. The duffus at the gate might think the rules say "big lens" and give you trouble.

I put my 50mm on the camera and the 70-200 white in it's own case when I go to a game that allows photography. I just don't know how to get the monopod through the gate. ;)

If you hide them though and then you are spotted that might be worse for you as they will get a bee in thier bonnet for not finding you out!

Probs best id say to take the printed rules along as as you say your within th rules so there should be no problem at all.

Put dark sunglasses on even if it's nighttime, and say it's your walking stick. Scream out "bloody discrimination!" if they bother you. :)

It's come up a couple of times in recent weeks. Try here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=58690&highlight=Starbucks+edition) for the original story.

Yeah, the guy with the white lens and white cane? That won't raise any suspicions. No, none at all.

I couldn't get away with that. A) No room and B) I'd look like I had 2 ____.

"Is that a lens in your pocket or are you happy to see me?"
"Actually, this [points to the left] is a lens AND I'm quite happy to see you [points to the right]"

Thanks, Jon (I knew someone would take the bait. ).

So, here's what you do, Surfo. You rent Belmondo's Starbucks L mug (I hear his rates are very reasonable) or buy one of your own and take it with you everytime you go see a game so that they get used to seeing you with that L mug. Then, on the night of the game you really want to photograph, you just substitute your real L lens for the L mug and you'll be in like Flint.

Time to consider the DO side :D

Small frame and lots of reach!!!!

My 70-300 DO is well within their limits. Won't give the same speed as the big L but will get many places easier.
