A friend needed some pics for a brochure and asked me to come up to her house for an informal shoot. This was done using a couple of props laying around the dining room, and lit with the Sigma EF-500DG Super 90 degrees to the left of the cakes shot through an umbrella at around 3 feet, and a cake box to bounce to the right (I didn't bring anything and it was white, and about the right size  ) Nifty 50 at ~ 5.0-6.3 ISO 100 @1/60 handheld. I know I need a better reflector next time,
or another flash to the right, anything else you would've changed?

They turned out rather nice. One of the few things that looks alright looking down from your perspective.

I want some cake ! the background might be a touch busy in some but still i like them. With the chocolate id try to light the top more. The fourth one is divine.

The 4th shot is delicious! With the other cake, perhaps darken the top a bit, the one with the cream and nuts.

Thanks all, the background elements were thrown together with stuff on the dining room table, next time I'll advise her of some props to have handy...

the props in the background dont relate to the food ?? Try nothing or some raw ingredients. Maybe shooot it on a white table or surface so that they are easier to integrate into a brochure . it depends on the colour of the page your client intends to use.
