View Full Version : Worth the Trouble?

I am going to a concert and my seats are around 20-25 rows back. The venue says I can bring my camera as long as it is not a "professional" camera.
1. Do you think they will let me in with my XTi with a small lens.
2. I have my kit lens and a "nifty fifty"
3. If so which lens and will it be worth the trouble?
Any advice on settings would be appreciated also...(I am a beginner to DSLR)
Thanks

check with them on what they consider "pro"... usually it's anything with a detachable lens..

With the lenses you mention I would say it's not worth the trouble - sit back and enjoy the show. If you want to shoot shows with that kit I suggest going to venues that are camera friendly where you can get up closer to the performers.

That's my $0.02 worth.

Most of the time you want a 2.8 lens or faster for concert stuff so the kit lens is likely going to be of not much use... the nifty fifty is great for concerts but probably not from that far back. I say leave it for now and have a go at a venue which allows you in with a camera to get the practice :)

Thanks everyone. I will just go and enjoy the show (Journey/ Def Leppard). Would hate to risk having to take my camera all the way back and leave it in the car for just a chance at some just "so so" pictures.
Thanks for the input.

I would leave the camera behind too and just enjoy the concert :)
I have shot gigs from around 10ft away from the artist with the kit lens and it's more or less useless without flash because it's far too slow.

Very doubtful. Ask them for their definition of Pro gear.
