I'm bothered by the orange cast that I assume is from the street light. I'm also not quite sure what I'm supposed to look at in this picture -- is it a study in the textures and reflective surfaces? There's no obvious place for my eye to start.

is it a study in the textures and reflective surfaces?

Yes. I was trying to capture rain as it fell in the puddles and reflected the light of the lampposts as seen by the tiny sparkles on the passage and the car. I also wanted to achieve a sort of chrome effect on the car.
There is realy no place for the eye to start because there is realy no composition but well, i though the image turned out just beautiful.

The important thing is that you like it. For each of us, taste is in our mouths anyway. I have images I like where others say, "Oh, whatever."

This seems like a good idea, but I think you need to work on it some more.

I think the rain in the puddles and the sparkling light is interesting, but I am not sure why you have included part of a car, some grass and a bit of car park.

To me these are just distractions.

I think you have tried to capture something interesting and original and if you get the chance again I would try to get some more shots. But my advice would be try to concentrate upon what is really catching your eye and remove everything else.

It is easy to try to get too much into one picture and so finish up with no focus. I have done it often enough myself.

Totaly agreed, I was just experimenting with the technique and so didnt even try to compose a shot, i just included the elements i thought would created the desired effect. These where the puddles next to the lampposts where the reflections appeared and the car. When i looked at the result on my PC, i was marveled by the effect on the car. Its realy a very crummy composition and i will try to shoot it properly next time it rains. While it doesnt, im shooting dice! :P
