Made it out to Joshua Tree a couple weeks ago, and found it to be a fascinating place. One of those places that can be truly quiet... None of the photos turned out perfectly, but here are a couple anyway, for those interested...

This one is of a place called Barker Dam...I was trying to find an angle that would allow the foreground rocks to lead more into the picture. Unfortunately, there was a lot of dead brush I had to keep working around... still quite a beautiful spot early in the morning.

Both are great images. I love the reflection in the first one!

I like the 2nd one,the colours in the sky in combo with the silhouette, make it for a good shot.

Thank you both for your kind comments...
Dmitri, I didn't quite achieve the foreground I was looking for in the first one...but I was thinking of your style while I was there! :)

Great shots Stephen. My wife & I were there last week and had a wonderful time.....took a lot of pictures but haven't processed them yet. We sat on the rocks & watched a number of Coots playing in the water (along with one lone Mallard). Its a beautiful place, thanks for posting these great shots.

Yep, top stuff. Would have to agree with Dimitri and say the combination works really well. Love the result.

Glad you made it up there. I can see the entrance from my home and still finding new things everytime I go up there. As to your images #1 seems a little dark for my taste and yes finding a good vantage point is a challenge. #2 is a classic JT photo. I really like the colors in it.

Scott - those coots can make quite a racket, can't they? :) With all the rock formations surrounding that place, the sound reverberates in amazing ways.

Thank you Adrian and Carol for your kind words!

Another vote for #2, although I do like the reflections in #1.

Rick - thanks for your comments. I can understand #1 being a little dark... And I'll take "a classic JT photo" as a compliment anyday!
I'd love to hear from you if there are any favorite haunts of yours for taking pictures out in that area...especially since you live there! Living in Riverside county makes it feasible for me to get out to that area once in awhile.

Fortynine Plams Oasis, Lost Palms Oasis, Cholla Cactus Garden, Lost Horse Mine, Queen Valley Mine, Pine City, Cottonwood, Split Rock, Barker Dam, Key's View, Key's Ranch are just a few. I usually venture off the trails in some of these areas. Most areas require some hiking. Some like Key's View do not. There are some burn areas from the fires this year that will create some nice photo op's. Looking forward to more of your photos!

Both shots are gorgeous, Stephen, very well done. I've been to JTNP and found it great for photography. However, I was unable to be there at the "golden" hour, which adds so much. Keep up the great work.

Thanks all, for your kind words! And thanks Rick for the tips on some good hangouts...I'll have to check those out the next time I'm out there. Too bad there's not very many! :D

Christopher, we might be cousins...you never know. :D Enjoyed your gallery, btw...
