Dewdrops on moss leaf ends- pretty certain this moss survives on top of a wall by collecting dewdrops- tiny springtail (about 1.2mm long) gives a sense of scale.

Simply mesmerizing... yet again!

Did you take these with your 105 mm macro or MPE-65?

Defying gravity now too, are we? ;) I like the syrup - what are they hanging from?
I also like that last one - fascinating!

All taken with the MPE-65 but all except the last shot could be taken with a 100mm macro plus extension tubes.

Not sure why but that pic just looked more interesting upside-down- the syrup drops are hanging from a paper clip :)

I was using an MPE-65 so didn't need ext tubes- but you would get about the right mag with a 100mm macro lens and a full set of ext tubes (65-68mm).

You can get lot's of interesting effects with water- and I just like playing :)
May try some more shots with sucrose syrup though- has much higher refractive index than H2O so you get different optical properties as well as the drops tending to stay where you put them.

I was actually suprised how the springtail came out. The shot is focus stacked and the springtail was in a different position in several of the pics but OOF so the reflections may not be of where the springtail is in the picture ;)

Hiya Brian,
Just a spark of inspiration have you thought of using this (Na2SiO3) hope I got this right ??? could be interesting if not messy:lol:

Cheers for now
Mark:)

Had to look that up- sodium silicate as used to make crystal gardens with other salt cystals as seeds ?- thanks for the idea- might give that an investigate :). Kids crystal garden set for Christmas ;)

Nice macrowork, thank you for sharing.;)
Seriously, you get the highest mark for creativity ! That's where these images rule.
Secondly, the technical execution is practivally flawless, almost looking like computer graphics. Therein one should prhaps seek weaknesses , if there are any.
In my taste, I'd go less intense with colours and perhaps a wee bit less photoshop polished...trying to preserve a little bit of the "hand-work" feel, as opposed to the "machine made" one.

Overall, again, very impressive.

Thanks for the kind comments again and critique everyone- much appreciated.
Petkal- will think about that- I normally do very little to the pics.
RAW conversion (with exposure correction if necessary), then in PS low de-noise and unsharp mask with levels correction if necessary). Think I did play with the colour/contast in #2&3 in this series but not the rest.
The main PP work I do is focus stacking (used in the dewdrop pics) but this does not change the colour but does change the apparent DOF and hence things can appear to be too much in focus and a little artificial. However having said that one of the things I like doing is playing and do every now and then try completely different styles (eg natural light shallow DOF pics)- part of the fun of photography :).
