My parents are looking for a replacement for their A400. Due to budget limitations, they are looking into either an A530, or an A540. My question is this; is there enough improvement in the A540 to make it worth them spending the extra money on it, over the A530?

Difference is about $30 at B&H ($140 vs. $170). Only significant differences I can see are the bigger LCD and slightly more pixels. If they want to hand around the camera for people to see the shots, I'd go for the bigger screen of the 540.

Nah, they're the 'download the 4 photos they took, and email them to people' type.

Then there's no point in their spending the extra. If you expect to use it at any point, however, . . .

The 540 upgrades over the 530 are, 2.5" LCD, 6.2mp vs 5.3, Has AV/TV mode, underwater mode with optional housing, 2.3 fps vs 2.1, and the a540 can use extra lenses with a lens adapter.

I'll stick with my S3 IS.

I had the A530 and sold it a couple weeks ago because it lacked the capability I wanted.
However, it took amazing pictures for a simple point and shoot. If your parents are just looking for a camera with basic capabilities, they'll be happy with just getting the A530. The A540 adds a couple features that give it some more manual capability, like Av/Tv modes, etc, plus a larger LCD and the ability to use different lenses.
My next camera? Rebel XT. It's in the mail. :D

My parents are strictly point and shoot people.
