i'd like some recommendations on a body that would be suitable as a cheap backup for the 10D. i'll be looking secondhand, so all i need is something thats going to be close to the 10D or 300D in use incase i need the film camera. but i dont want to spent alot on a pro body of any type as this body will sit in the bag doing not much most of the time. so something that would make a good wedding backup body?

thanks

I'm far from pro, but the Elan II is a pretty good camera. Its operation ergonomics are similar to the 10D and you can get a used one at B&H or KEH for a decent price (around $200 US or less). In fact, last time I looked, KEH had a brand new one for sale for $349 US.

An Elan II or Elan IIe would do just fine. A used EOS 3 is not a bad choice either. Both are Type-A bodies.

You probably want to visit www.keh.com and www.bhphotovideo.com and look at their used equipment. You can pick up the original Elan for around $150 at KEH, and there are some Rebel models that are even less. I would prefer the Elan series if only because it shares some of the ergonomics of the 10D (at least from what I know, I haven't officially gotten my 10D yet but I do have the manual).

You definately want to stay in the EOS family unless you want to buy another complete series of lenses.

I carry the Elan II it's reliable and should be cheap on the market since alot of people is dropping film for digital. Most features are close if not the same as the 10D. Also it's big brother the Elan 7 is available also.
