I shot Clint Black last week at the casino. Pretty good show with nice lighting. Clint moves around nicely and has a great smile. Click on the image below to go to my Clint Black gallery:

i see the 300mm f/2.8 is being used to good effect!
you may want to straighten the wide angle/stage shot...the stage is tilting to the right.
and did you do any PS to make the red and white backlight spots and smoke fade before it reached the players? my question may not make sense, but there's a black zone between the paths of light and when it reaches down to the band members.

Very nice as usual. I love how the eyes are well lit under the brim of the cowboy hats.

Great set of pics of Clint Black...I especially like the profile photo of him with the guitar (478-200)...also the full body shot of him walking back and looking your way away(359-200)...

Narlus, yes, that 300mm f/2.8 is my absolute favorite lens for concerts ... the 400mm f/2.8 is just too big to hand hold but I have used it on a tripod by the light board.
Yes, I ALWAYS seem to tilt the camera shooting the full stage shots from the lightboard or the landing above and behind it ... I meant to straighten them up but since I did nothing else to any of the images I forgot. Which I guess answers your other question ... no, only resize and sharpen, period. I guess the smoke was blown upwards from behind and was billowing out ... I should ask someone about the smoke machines.

Nice shots! The sharpness of your pictures is great, I know you answered this in another thread but what do you use for sharpening. I remember it wasn't PS but forget which thread or which program you use. Looking at the data on some of your pistures I see A-2.8. Is there something I'm not understanding or is it your sharpening that seems to give you more DOF at 2.8, cause my 24-70 doesn't seem to give me that much.

I sharpen with my current photo editing program, PhotoImpact 11. Sharpening and DOF are not really related, but my 1DMarkII's have a different crop factor than your 20D which may lead to apparent differences in DOF. You should pursue this over in the Lens forum.

the sensor size will have an effect on DoF; i've heard from someone (not sure if this is true or not) that it's about one stop; ie, DoF of a 5D @ f/4 is about equivalent to a 20/30D @ f/2.8
that could just be hearsay in terms of relative magnitude, but the small sensor P&S will definitely have more DoF at a given stop, so there is definitely a relation.

About DoF: Why a crop factor camera has more DoF then a FF (http://www.outbackphoto.com/workshop/phototechnique/essay07/essay.html). (at a given working distance and framing)
edit: Some nice images as allways, yet I find it distracting that in some the guitar draws more attention then the face, because it is so light....

Apparently, Clint Black has done a previous show here at our local venue, and also drew a full house...I'd like to see him live, hopefully in 2007...
Tonight, I'm heading out to take pics of Juice Newton... Hopefully, I'll be able to get a wide stage shot like one of the many, you often feature...it will depend on the crowd, and if I can get up and away from my seat in the middle of the show...Later...
