on Hallowee'n down by the canal ...the old man went out for logs to pile them up by the fire before the night started banging away
:(
I didn't want to lose the smoke and 'look' so didn't crop the top

many thanks Sandy
I was keen for the cats to be seen
I liked them a bit better in this shot (attached) but overall I preferred the shot I already posted
just to show you how the cats sat when the man came out of the house to get the logs
I cropped the top here too to show the old house without the modern house built behind.
(but I loved the chimney and smoke)
one gets the feeling (justa feeling) that the people in the other house are waiting for the old man to :(
and then they will shift the old house
a.s.a.p.
the other house seems so 'up on top' of the old... built so close.
maybe a close relation and they have built the house in his backyard . the deal being that they will care for him in ways, as the years go on while he is still alive
the old house is facing out onto the canal , grassy banks and lovely flat country scenery beyond

That's a nice one, Marie!
thanks Frank
the white and the blacks were a little difficult to get together for the result here ,the house being so white
and I wanted the cats to show up too.
they must be very much a part of the man's life.
I took the picture from across the canal

Nice photo Marie, I like the uncropped version. It has more character with the roof and chimney (not to mention the man and the cats).

I think the image is really a result of an excellent vision launched but never gone far enough, or perhaps gone astray.
The only thing interesting in it is really the old man himself....the rest is a vapid squalorly stage. In that sense, the work ends up as being an unintentional tease in a noir photography manner.

the vapid squaler (as you say) of his beloved home could not be anything else
to him it is home
and home is where the heart is
thanks

I think I prefer the first myself as it shows more of what is going on around his home
but the other just shows the house for what it is
also, I wanted to show the cats which had run out of the house and lined up in the 'driveway' one after another. it was a nice scene
thanks Athena
