View Full Version : Question about Canon printer paper settings...

I have a Canon S820 (similar to the 900/9000 and later 6-color printers).

Does selecting the paper type change the printer settings beyond the default print quality settings? I've noticed that when selecting different paper types, the custom quality settings may be at a level 2 with auto halftoning, or level 1 with diffusion halftoning, etc. Is that all the paper settings control, or is it more?

In other words, are the paper selections just "canned" profiles for the paper types, or are there more things being controlled by the paper selection, things that cannot be manually controlled?

The reason I ask is that to get prints longer than 23", I have to use banner mode, but that's only available with plain paper. I've had pretty good results forcing the print quality to the best settings though, so I suspect that plain paper with the best quality settings is the same as selecting a photo paper.

Any insights?
