Gulls are good practice for me. There are loads of the about, the tend to be used to humans and are easily tempted by bits of bread!

However, when shooting on Tuesday I found myself thinking "not another black-headed gull shot" so I concentrated on trying to get some action. I liked this first one.

The I just wanted to get a better shot of the head markings - I've set myself the challenge of getting the full range of black-headed gull markings as the year goes by.

Cool ... anyone can short a Duck or Gull, but just making a tad more effort to see can transform a possible dull shot into one well worth a look and we extend ourselves a bit more and improve. That guy really has a big mouth ;-)

I was surprised how wide they can get them.

I want to be a better photographer and don't think I'll get their just taking photos of gulls sat down doing nothing! :)

Thansk Pete. I think this guy was trying to clain the territory as he kept squealing at the other gulls and driving them off. I got a few of him with his beak open but this was the widest it got.

I am not familiar with this particular species and you have done a great job capturing it. I don't find them boring at all.

I like the first shot best Damian. The shot seems a bit tight near the birds head and bill though.

I agree with your assessment. I also think the bird was blind, i.e., incapacitated.
Snow white is nice as a colour of vestal chastity, just that it wipes the feather detail...that can be an issue sometimes.

I can almost hear him squawking in the first shot Damian. Besides the fact that one herring gull woke me up 3:00 AM this morning with it's loud squawk.
Beautiful colours and good sharp shots in both shots, well done.

Thanks guys. They're good little subjects to work with and practice on. They do do get into some comical situations too.
