View Full Version : f8 for maximum depth of field

f8 is the minimum aperture available on the G1.
Isn't this a serious limitation?
When using a standard 35mm SLR I regularly use f22 to maximize depth of field, surely the same should be true for a digital camera – or am I mistaken?

The G1 lens is a 7mm - 21mm... have you tried to calculate the depth of field of a 7mm lens at f8.0 ?
That's not the problem.. the problem is that at f2.5, the background is not blurred enough (at 21mm)... even at the closest macro focus level.
Take care when comparing with SLR... the same logic apply, it just needs tweaking

Thanks - if I understand you f8 on the G1 offers me the same level of detail (DOF) that I am used to with f22 on my 35mm. SLR.
I checked out your comments about the difficulty of blurring backgrounds at f2 and yes its a problem. Fortuately for me this is rarely an issue.
