Is it customary to take the very first picture with a new camera of a duck and share it here? If so, I shot no ducks with my new 5D I got two days ago. Sorry all.
For those who plan to buy soon, better hurry up before duck hunting season starts :(

It's customary - and a good luck kind of thing. It's also for when you buy a new lens. If you can't get a duck, we've been known to accept most waterfowl. :)

Some people, lacking live duck-ness have even shot a ceramic or rubber duck...
btw...it's not to late to draw a duck and photograph it...

That is obviously one of Petkal's stunt ducks.

This thread should be a sticky, its not just customary, iv discovered its a requirement.
I didn't take a duck photo when i first got my 30D, and it ended up spending several days at Canon.

Either that or the box it came in (the camera, not the duck...)

Dang, I feel behind. I own the group a duck shot due to the recently purchased 30D. Out into the Georgia cold I go this weekend to procure the requisite duck shot!

You may feel a bit self conscious shooting a common duck with an expensive camera if theere are people around. A voice in your head will tell you they are all sneering that you have bought all the gear but have nothing better to shoot than a duck.

Ok, so its customary to shoot ducks with a brand new lens, but is it the same for a new body? I've had my 30D for about 3 weeks and haven't had time to play with it, only crappy pictures of my room. I have to find some ducks, its getting cold up here plus the snow that will be coming.

Sheesh - I don't like the taste of wild duck, so I shot a Canada Goose first - hope that's OK. Nowhere to post it yet though.

I think Dante or Calicocat started a "wilted flower" thing with new body. Not sure who it was, but it sure was an ugly flower!

I believe you're supposed to shoot and post a duck when you buy a new L lens, not just a regular lens or new body.

Oh man...this is the first I've heard of this duck thing! I think I saw someone say it's not too late to get that done...even if I've had my camera for almost a year now and my newest lense is a couple months old?
My weekend has just taken on a new mission...;)

I shot a goose at work the other day. There were a bunch outside our office tower. I almost got arrested. ;)
