Lensmateonline.com has adapter for the S3 for $25.
Adaptertubes.com has them for $12.
Anyone know how the quality compares?

I cant speak for adaptertubes.com or whatever it is, but I personally have the lensemate adapter and I am very pleased with the quality, as are many other people on this Forum.

Lensmate has come through for me many times, both in the quality of their product and their absolutely excellent customer service. I cannot speak highly enough of their after-sales support.. it is exceptional. I have bought from them in the past, and definitely will again.
I cannot comment on adaptertubes.com, never heard of them.

Adaptertubes.com/camerafilters.com have an excellent filter for the S3IS. It is a 58mm aluminum tube made by Bower. It fits great with no wobble and to me is the best looking adapter tube for the S3. Their service is great. I ordered after hours one night and the order was in my mail box 2 days later with free shipping. Best of all it is only $12.00 and I got a 10% discount off of that. The first picture below is the Adapter with a Hoya linear polerizer and the $1.00 lens cap. The second picture is the tube on the S3 with no filters on it.

Spur, the more and more I go on camerafilters.com, the more I'm starting to like the site. Just wish they gave better pic examples like lensmateonline.com does. The adapter tube looks good. Is it plastic or Aluminum?

The adapter tube is Aluminum. I guess they figure if they had more pictures and information they would have to raise prices.

Just got my 52mm adapter from Lensmateonline. Ordered Sunday nite, showed up today. Very satisfied with the quality and fit. Also ordered the collapsible rubber lenshood - and man, is that the most foul smelling thing EVER!? Too many whiffs of that thing is cancer incarnate. Smells like tires on fire in a chemical plant next to a rocket fuel depot. Oh well. Works just fine.

Could be... Whatever it is, they need to bottle it and sell it as a repellent for, well, just about anything. It really is *that* foul smelling.

Ok, I received my adapter tube for the S3 today from Adaptertubes.com (M&K Optics LLC). Its made by "Bower". I'm disappointed. Take a look at the (2) videos linked below. If you notice on the adapter ring that comes on the S3, it has a white dot. You are suppose to line this up with the white arrow on the body. The adapter tube doesn't have anything to show where to align it, so I had to turn the adapter tube until it locked in. The first time I did this is on Video 1. I then took the adapter tube off and tried the next turn. Video 2 shows this. I tried the final notch, and it does the same as Video 1.
How much play should it have? It seems like it shouldn't have any play at all. I tried moving the adapter ring that comes on the S3 from the factory, and it does movie slight ly like Video 2. Does anyone else S3 do this?

How tight is it on yours? Did you look at Video 2 I posted? That is the best setting on my camera, the other 2 spots are loose like in Video 1. What adapter tube do you have?

Mine is tight with no movement on two of the lugs. The third lug has some slight movement when you try to rotate it, about like the trim ring that comes on the S3. I couldn't tell much from the videos they were to blurry for my old eyes to tell how much the adater was moving and how much the camera was moving.

I posted (2) more videos. The last videos were sorta blurry, since I didnt use macro mode to record.
Please check them out. Im curious if the 3rd setting is normal or not. Its not very loose, but its not tight either.
Anyone with a Lensmate or Bower adapter, please post how your adapter fits.
Thanks.

My lensmate adapter hardly moves at all. I mean, maybe 1/4 of a millimeter, if that. It's pretty snug. I'm quite satisfied.

They are sending me (2) replacements to see if I have a defective adapter. Im curious how much play the adapter should have, if any. Rotation and moving the adapter from front to back of the camera.

I have a lensmate adapter and there is negligible if any rotation but there is very slight front to back motion but I imagine that a tiny but is going to be there but what you show in your videos is just not right. It almost looks like the adapter is for a different camera and they but the wrong model label on it.
Good luck with the replacement ones let us know how it turns out.

On the setting that has the least play, I can see some light coming thru between the adapter and camera body. Its a very slight gap, but I can see light if I move the adapter forward. Can you see light on your adapter? As for the marking on the adapter, the adapter itself has Canon S2/S3 on it. Its probably defective, or my camera is (I hope not).

If your trim ring fits properly i would assume that there is nothing wrong with your camera. As for the seeing light just slightly, and i have to rock the adapter down to see light up top and rock it up to see light at the bottom, however, the gap is so small that I cannot even fit a fingernail into it.

Well, I managed to get a good fit with the adapter when I stuck a piece of masking tape in one of the 3 sliding points. The adapter now fits tight. This is just a temporary fix so I can use the adapter this weekend at the zoo. Hopefully the replacement adapter fits as well as my fix. :)

I also found my lensmate was loose on one spot but i just found the right fit. you can also still use your original canon lenscap just adapt the new to old

I was thinking of ordering from adaptertubes.com.
Looking at the video that shows the tube having a slight amount of play, is it really that big of deal? I guess if that won't hurt my camera (a canon s2), then I really would not be bothered by slight play. All I really want to do is use a linear polarizer and a closeup lens anyhow.
Comments on my situation?

I bought an adapter for my A610 via lensmate using paypal. They don't advertise paypal on the site from what I see, but through email (excellent customer service) they hooked me up.
I just did a price comparison from both sites for the S3 adapter, and Lensmate is a whole nickel more expensive, after shipping to Canada. I'll stick with Lensmate on this one.
I don't know a lot about how adapters should or should not fit, but that rattling in the video didn't seem right to me.
Edit, they do offer Paypal via their site at Lensmate
