Having lost the CD for my a620 while just moving, and never having installed the software first (prior to move I only had a linux computer, now have access to both), I am not clear what the exif data shown by zoombrowser includes. Can someone tell me? Anyone know a way to access it all, or what all is actually included in the file? I gather that there is not really a universal exif data format inside jpegs (the a620 does not shoot raw), is that correct? I'd like to capture as much exif data as I can but not much is shown by the software I have tried, such as picasa for linux.

I believe I read that many image editors can corrupt the data because it is not in a standardized location in the file - is that true? If so it would mean just another reason to always keep an original.

Thanks

If you have Windows XP, right click on the image on your desktop or in Windows Explorer then click "Properties", the "Summary" tab and the "Advanced" button. This will then display quite a bit of the exif data for the image.

Here is an example of the Windows exif dialog:

I'm usually on linux but right now I'm using xp, so perfect timing - thanks! Now that I know it really is there I'll look into accessing it on linux.

If you use Irfanview (a freeware) you shall get a lot more exif information. Install it with the free plugin. Open any pic with it and press 'i' on the keyboard then click 'exif' button.
