Not sure where to post this but you guys help me with everything else so good place to start.

I am using sync cables and need to run more than one light, how do you split them. I am just getting back into portrait taking so dont have my Wein radio slaves anymore just using pc cable for now.

I am not sure if there are some Y cables out there or boxes or what you would used to conect 3-4 strobes to one camera. Thanks for any help.

I don't use them but have seen them.

I've seen a small box with three or four outputs and I've also seen Y cables. They do exist.

Cheers

Ian

I have heard that because the digital cameras fires pre flashes that this will set them off before you intend them to fire.

I've got a 3 way splitter and short connector cord ($29) that goes from there to the camera. I got mine at www.alienbees.com, although there are cheaper versions of the same thing. You can check ebay, I've seen them there for about $10 or so.

You can use the slave function with your 10D without a problem. I've got 3 AlienBees, 550EX and 420EX all working from mine. It can be tricky, but is very workable. The pre-flash you are talking about is a function of the E-TTL operation. Where it does a liw level preflash to get a better estimate of the power settings that should be used during the shot. Not a problem for the 550EX since it does a full manual mode as well as the E-TTL and strobo modes. I've also played with the 550 as master but turned off the output of the light and only used it to control the 420EX in conjunction with the AlienBees. Overall the 550 and 420 combo is pretty impresive once you figure out all the capabilities it has.
