Question about folder numbering limits.

I noticed the following statement in my Digital Rebel manual:

If folder No. 999 is created, "Folder number full" will appear on the LCD monitor. Then if file No. 9999 is created, "Err CF" will be displayed on the LCD panel and in the viewfinder. Replace the CF card with the new one.

Is Canon saying that after taking 10,000 photos, the CF card is now useless? It must be possible to reset the folder numbering somehow. Low-level formatting perhaps?

I'd appreciate if anyone could clear this up for me.

I think means that, for the time being, the camera has run out of numbers. I guess the camera won't create folder 100 on the same card as folder 999.

The manual assumes you don't want to reformat the card that is currently in the camera because you'd lose all the pictures you've just taken. So remove the "full" and insert an empty. Next time you use the original card, reformat it and it will be using folder 100 or whatever you've reached by then.

After it is full you can reset the filecount in the camera. It starts all over again.

Yes, it resets also the foldercount and wil start with 100. This doesn't depend on CF card. The camera rules this.
