Ok, I have been reading so much on this forum, that I am BRAIN DEAD. :P

I went out this past weekend and just shot pictures like crazy. I was loaned a 1gb microdrive so you know testing it was in the horizon. Shot over 400 pictures of soccer, in Sports mood and in P mood. Got some good shots and got some OK shots. I still don't know what I am doing, some day I will (NOT). But I had lots of fun just going out and shooting without having to worry about FILM. Even though I am using the DREBEL more like a P&S than what it is suppose to be used like, I am having fun. I am learning, little by little, that my sports picture taking is better if I use MF instead of AF. I have learned that my 75-300III USM 4-5.6 lens is Ok, but not GREAT. I have learned that BIGGER sometimes is not BETTER. I have learned that ZOOM lens is sometimes to much. This is when I am taking pictures of young kids instead of kids 12 and up. The fields for kids 10 and under are smaller so ZOOM sometimes hinders my shots. I have learned that I need a better Lens than the one I have. And most important lesson that I have learned is, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I AM DOING    But thanks to many of you hear, I know I will learn SOMEDAY. In the meantime, I am just going to go out and have fun. FUN FUN FUN. Like I told my wife last night, I don't have to worry about the cost of film. She was shocked when I told her how many pictures I took Saturday and Sunday. And I also thanked her for buying me the DREBEL.

Thank you all for your GREAT HELP. The next lessons I need to start learing is how to use PHOTOSHOP to enhance my PICS. Maybe my 16 hour flight to Japan, I may read on how to use PHOTOSHOP. Thanks again and sorry for RAMBLING on and on. I am just having TO MUCH FUN

So, next you must take some good photos of your wife and print them out so that you can carry them around. Make sure she understands that you are happy that you can shoot good photos of her.

For me I agree it's all about having fun & yes I waited until I turned 40 to start learning the correct way to not waste film, but for me it's all fun. It seems we all get uptight & carried away at times but it's so many ways to learn & accomplish the same task. This forum has been one of the best I've seen in years.
Hopefully we don't confuse as many as we help. :)

If your wife does approve of the pictures you take of her, please let me know how you do it. Mine is never happy with the ones I take, even tough other people think that they are good likenesses. :(

ARN'T all WOMEN that way. Does not matter how many times we tell them that they look fine, THEY NEVER BELIEVE us. Oh well.

I agree, had my wife in the studio for some classwork on low key lighting and she hated the pics. I got a 93 on the print but she does'nt want the pic on the wall. Now when I did the same lighting on a friend she got jealous and said how come I won't take her shots the same way. Can't win with you wife as a model in most cases :) But I do let her see what I do outside the house just so there is no suprises & I won't end up with a missing camera.''

Just to show that Marie has not got the monopoly on quoting poetry

Leonard Cohen wrote

When you call me close
to tell me
your body is not beautiful
I want to summon
the eyes and hidden mouths
of stone and light and water
to testify against you.

Call me old fashioned but aint that fabulous?

I remember that, in the days when most portraits were taken by the local professional, if a woman was not satisfied with the picture he would offer to take another one free of charge. What he actually did was to reprint the first one with the negative reversed, so that it looked like the view she had in the mirror. :D

To all you men out there,
I can say the same for my husband! :P I don't believe it's just a female thing. My husband always has something to say about the way he looks in the picture!

I don't understand how a thread about having fun can degenerate into a discussion of wives. Aren't the two terms mutually exclusive?

Yes it is about having fun. I could have written your paragraph, thought I think I did write a similiar one, a year ago. I am by no means an expert, but it seems to make more sense now. Keep shooting, keep reading. It will click at some point.
