I sold my 30D last week, to help finance this camera. Kept the 5D, thought it was a killer combo.
I'm concerned about the noise. I know the 5D has better noise perfomance at 3200. Ok, I can deal with that. But should the 30D be better?
Here's two shots, taken different nights. Same field, same lens (200 f/2.8)
same ISO 3200. First shot is from tonight, with MKIIn, second is from a couple of weeks ago, with 30D, same lens, at ISO. Is it me, or does the noise from the 30D seem cleaner? No PP done, just JEPG, straight out of camera on both.
Tell me what you think.

The second shot is better exposed therefore has less noise, that may be part of it. As far as if the 30D has less noise at 3200 than the 1DN...I don't know.

"tonights" image is under exposed. under exposure will always show more noise. the 30d is a better exposure and looks like better lighting too, and resulted in less noise
the 1d2n can produce amazing images at iso 3200, a few of us just posted them yesterday in a different thread

The main advantage to the 1DmkIIN over the 30D is the AF performance and faster FPS. The 30D gets good noise at the highest ISO settings via compromising more by filtering resulting in a slight loss of detail. The 1D series does not filter out detail at all and assumes the photographer will handle the noise during PP.

also use CF 4 to seperate the AF from exposure and shutter.

The example you posted seemed to suggest greater camera movement with the 1D.

Mike,
Thank you for an explanation, that makes sense to me. I've seen other examples..posted here in the last day or so, that are very nice at 3200.
Are you suggesting, the 1DmkIIN is better designed for RAW shooting and PP?
And thank you for the links, I will check them out. I do use CF #4, to activate focus, and the shutter button to make exposure.
Thanks again.
