Last Monday, I packed up my sick 1Ds and sent it along with 4 Lenses to the Irvine Canon Service Center. The sensor in the 1Ds had to be totally replaced and the lenses were adjusted and aligned to the body. Today (1 week later) I recieved everything back. I was sure this would take a few weeks!
I am one happy camper. Everthing is working better than ever.

I've got to complement them also. Last time my 10D went to Irvine, it was 45 days before it came back--shutter element was on back order. That time they loaned me a D60 for a special shoot that I had in San Antonio (even overnight aired it to me Hawaii so I would have it in time for my trip).

This time they arranged for UPS to pick up the camera at my house, they signed for it on Friday, completed repairs on Wednesday, shipped on Thursday, and I had it back the following Monday (UPS doesn't deliver on weekends--it was in Hawaii on Friday). I was impressed to say the least. In fact I got the camera back a day before I got their letter saying that they had received it and were working on.

Turned out they replaced the head assembly this time which apparently houses most of the electronics and the built in flash unit. About the only thing left of the original camera is the case and LCD. So far, the flash is shooting in synch, both internal and external, and no more annoying Err 99s. My fingers are crossed that this is the last time I need to use their services! Thank goodness though for warranties and people who stand behind them.
