But i figure if you take enough pictures you'll capture a few, these are 3 of about 65 in a 10 min period.

I thought they were decent...but i'd like to know what you think

Timmy,

I think they're all too dark or harsh.

When shooting people in-doors, try to bounce your flash as opposed to hitting them nearly straight on with it.

The shadow across the kid's face could be intriguing, but it isn't working for me on that shot. In re-examining it, I think it doesn't work for me because there are harsh flash-reflections on all of the kid's wet face parts (lips, teeth, etc).

I think with kids, especially, flash needs to be avoided.

I really like the second shot of the boy with his hand in front of the camera. The drama is so alive here (as evident in his eyes). The shot is a tad on the dark side, it could stand a 'little' tweak with levels or curves. It's great how the shadows on the face are so dark though.

I can almost hear him telling an animated story of some monster about to grab him (or perhaps his sister...)

I just looked at these images on my "big machine" and they don't look nearly as dark as they did on my laptop.

Poor lil laptop, so old and feeble.

I love it, though. I can check in with my 'net obligations (yes, obligations!) while my daughter's eating or crafting or whatever.

Still I should make a note not to look at this folder while I'm using it.

Timmy, what flash are you using?

I suppose I am spoilt. I decided a few things when I got my 10D.
1. Biggest card I could afford.
2. Best flash I could afford.

The 550ex was a good decision for me. I am my daughter's preschool's photographer. (The school is a co-op and at least one parent of every family is on at least two committees with major time involved each and every week.) I knew I needed the extra reach of this flash.

Still, my other flash, that I use on my Nikon N2000 is a Vivitar which also has a directable strobe-head and I don't recall it being all THAT expensive. I might have just lucked into it at the time.
Memories' fuzzy, it was 20 years ago.

I'm using the "internal" flash...
