My daughter is starting conditioning for the high school JV softball season and I'm thinking it would be nice to get my new DRebel out around the diamond and get some action shots of the games.

I'm still new to the DSLR world and have a limited budget, so for now "L" glass if I go Canon is out of the question in most cases.

I have a 28-135mm IS as my everyday lense but assume a longer reach will be required for the above. Worst case scenario would be shooting from the outfield fence which is either 200 or 250ft away.

Any help on the type of lenses i'd need. Hopefully it will be sunny outside for most of the shots.

Thanks

You'll need something with 300-400 reach. Preferably 400, but at the numbers go up, so does the cost. You'll probably need to shop Sigma glass. Their glass is pretty decent and usually quite a bit cheaper than Canon.
