I was just flipping through a photo magazine the other day and I noticed the new Sigma ad (ok maybe its not that new but its the first time it actually caught my eye).

I noticed that they now have a 15-30mm EX "DG". Does anyone know if there's an actual difference with this lens compared to the "regular" 15-30mm EX lens that they released last year? Or did they just throw on the "DG" badge so that they could market this lens along with their other "digital" lenses?

I do not think there is a difference,. the DG label was given to lenses that Sigma feels are especially suited to digital SLRs for one reason or another,. but as a moniker it is as meaningkess as "EX" or even "L" in that it doesn't really describe any particular manufacturing process...

well at first only new lenses were getting DG,. but then Sigma is in the situation of having to explain that there other lenses will work with digitals as well (for some reason they must of thought someone actually paid attention to the "DG" ??? my bet is your number 2? )

Anyway,. it seems that Sigma is now going to "retrofit" exisitng labels with two simple modification that will qualify them for the "DG" name....

....the modifications?
1. A little sticker will be placed on the lens body saying "DG"
2. In addition to the letters "APO", IF, EX, RS, and AF... the stylish black and red boxes will also sport the letters "DG"

Hope this helps :)
