10D in macrophotography

hi everybody,
the canon 100mm /2.8 Macro prooved to be one of the best lenses for macrophotography with SLR cameras. its view angle is about 24 degrees in full frame, in 10D , it should be reduced to about 15. did anyone try it with 10D? is the "5X magnigfication" canon 65mm Macro better with a 10D

Sure, I use this 100mm f2.8 Macro with my 10D quite a bit. It's an excellent lens with full time manual focus and excellent edge-to-edge sharpness. It has great color rendition and excellent contrast.

sure! the canon 100mm 2.8 Macro is a superb lens! its ratest as one as the sharpest lenses made by canon! Its really at the same level as an Canon L lens. normaly it shoult branded as an L.

sure, the MP65 is also a great lens. but you only can use it for macrowork from 1-5 magnification. I think its more for real extreme macro work. sometimes you maybe dont want a magnification that high. the 100mm can be used as a normal 100mm telephoto as well. so I only can recommend this lens!

I like the focal length of the 100 mm macro lens on the 10D. It gives me a fair bit of room to get out of the way, and that's nice when you are trying to light a macro subject with a reflector, or are just trying to stay out of the sunlight. That 65 mm lens is a very specialized lens. It's manaul focus, very expensive, and although I can't find any information on this point, it may not focus to infinity.

As an interesting note, Canon Professional Service do class the 100mm macro and the 100mm USM macro as professional lenses. An L without the cool red stripe..... ;)

- there are two different lenses: 100/2.8USM macro and 100/2.8 macro. USM is the newer version, is a completely different construction and doesn't have full time manual focus, of course. are you talking about the USM?

- for macro the angle of view doesn't matter. what matters is the magnification and working distance. the 100mm goes to 1:1 whereas the 65mm goes to from 1:1 to 5:1. the working distance of the latter is smaller.

- the 65mm macro doesn't focus to infinity. it's for macro macro only. remember: 1:1 magnification means that a 22mm object fills your frame with the 100/2.8 on a 10D.
