View Full Version : something weird about my camera...

I have a 400d, and several times i have noticed that the last few photos are jpeg, which i assumed meant i had run out of enought memory on my card for a raw file. I have just downloaded my last lot of piccies. scenario... off to a park to photo flowers, change lens half way through, but not turning off the camera. Later, after had been turned off, i photo some bees at a friends house. so now i download, and i get to the end of the bees, and suddenly there are jpeg files from the end of my download of flowers. My cr file numbers start at img 2305 (flower), last one is img 2535 (bee). There is a break in the middle, where i jump from img 2418 to 2425 (middle of slower shoot), and then continues again 2426 etc. At the bottom of my downloaded images, are then the jpeg files 2419 to 2424 (flowers) then 2478 to 2487 (all flowers).. again a gap in the img numbered files. Now the only think i can think of, is i set my camera to macro mode at some stage, would this for some reason change the camera setting out of shooting raw? I have raw and jpeg together setting. have i confused you??
edit, what i am say is, why is my camera sudenly shooting jpeg only in the middle of a raw plus jpeg shoot? and then switching back to raw plus jpeg? is because i put my camera in auto, or macro or something? I tend to change between av and tv and m mode, and on occassion the macro and auto and p modes.

Yes. First this would be best in EOS Cameras forum.
Sounds like you're shooting RAW + JPG. You will get 2 files this way. Be more clear what you think your problem is. You unlikely have a problem.

how do i change it to that section? Not really a problem with camera, just confused as to why i only get jpeg in the middle of raw and jpeg.

You've confused me. My 20D never changes from RAW to JPG by itself, if it runs out of room on the card it says "card full" and refuses to take any more photos. The only way it changes is if I explicitly change it. Maybe someone with a 400D can tell you what their does.

There is a cusomt function where you can use the set button to change between diferent recording qualities while shooting on the fly.
Perhaps you accidently activated this custom function 1-1.

The green box and icon modes do not shoot RAW, only JPG -- no matter what image quality (RAW, JPG+RAW, etc.) you select.

thanks guys. I have read my manual so many times, but only a bit sinks in at a time, there is just soooo much info.

Yeah I've read mine at least half a dozen times over 2 years or so, I still learn something when I open it up.

OK catfish, if you are shooting in RAW+JPEG mode and you switch to macro you cannot shoot RAW because you are in one of the Auto modes, only jpeg.
