Hi all..been browsing this forum for the past 6 months and this board is just awesome!! I had a few point and shoots in the past 10 yrs..upgraded to a Nikon D50 with the 2 lens kit and upgraded to a Canon 30D with the 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens. I absolutely LOVE this camera.. and I absolutely LOVE Vegas.

This will be my first time to Vegas with a SLR.. what is a good "ideal" setting for shooting at night.. low/mid or high iso since the 30D has pretty low noise in high ISO?? I usually just leave my still night shots on P mode and adjust aperture/shutter settings when shooting nighttime sports under artificial lightning. I just want to get the best night shots handheld. I guess I'll have to take a few practice shots to get it right. Also I have noticed the colors are more "accurate" on the Nikon than the 30d but thats about the only disadvantage I have noticed. Dam what a upgrade!!! :):):).. Happy shooting

Bobby

I guess I'll have to take a few practice shots to get it right. The night shots I like the most have been taken before it's completly dark & there is still some glow in the sky. Try it & see what you think.

There may be something in here:

your welcome to look through my PBase Vegas gallery and see the EXIF data on the Night time photos: http://www.pbase.com/smith_xt/las_vegas there not the best ever but OK for an amateur I suppose.

I often found ledges along the Strip for aiding in supporting the camera for exposures longer than 1/30 handheld.

thanks guys!! I'm still getting the hang of this camera and dammit..i'll get it all down before my trip in December and i also have to learn craps lol

Bluedog- your pics are pretty good!! I did notice you shot many of the night shoots on iso 800/400 and one in 100 I believe and your day shots were mostly 100/200. My 30D has pretty low noise at 800/1000+ so I might switch back and forth. I'm going to head to downtown Dallas in a couple days to practice :)

I don't know if you've been to my fair city before, but vegas at night it still pretty bright. I just looked at a few shots of the bellagio i have and i was at ISO 1250, F4.5, 1/25 at 53mm on my 28-135 with IS on and the pictures are pretty sharp with good color. maybe that'll help ya with a starting point.

I always took basic to "advanced" point and shoots. I just really got into the SLR craze this year so I'm really excited to try out the 30D
