I was wondering if anyone could help me with some info on sigma lens’. I’m looking at getting the 70-200mm 2.8 and 1.4x converter, for surfing, portraits, weddings and landscapes, and also a 15-30mm 3.5-4 for weddings and landscapes, I have a canon 28-135 which is ok, focus is a bit slow on d30. thanks

Hi Benno,
I had a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 for about 6 months. After a while the lens began hunting when bringing it into focus. The problem became bigger and bigger. At the end it was almost impossible to bring the lens into focus (autofocus). The importer from Sigma Belgium said that the problem was not the lens, but the digital camera. He said the batteries became a little wear out. With my other lenses i had no problem at all.
Finally, from the store where i bought the lens, i got a new Canon 70-200 F4 lens in return. I am very happy with it :)
Maybe more people had bad experiences with this Sigma lens on EOSD30 ?...
Greetings, Sus

I own the Sigma 70-200 for over a year now. Recently I purhcased a 1.4x to go with it and found the pictures to be too soft at f4. So I'll be selling the converter soon and saving up for a 100-400L. The 70-200 is still a great lenses and I have no intention of selling it. Highly recommended. You can check out tons of samples from http://www.pbase.com/wmack02118/my_pictures. Most close up pictures are taken with the 1.4x.

Looks like your problem may have been a faulty, or worn our motor, and also a gear. I had the same problem with my Sigma. However, Sigma fixed it for free, and updated my lense also to perform with the D30. It was fine at first, but now, it has started the slow focussing again. It is really weak.

I can only comment on the Sigma 15-30mm. I have used it in wedding photography with excellent results. It is the best wide angle zoom for the money.
