Where is the moon

I like this photo, but I think I am struggling with the same problem. Exposing for the clouds gets me to overexpose for the moon. Someone suggested to me once to take two images, sub and over exposed, and then assemble them in PP, in order to combine the moon at the proper level, and the clouds/bldgs as well.

I have thought of that too. The light is actually a street light but has the same effect.
