It's okay, I guess, but wouldn't you really rather have a red one?

Seriously---your fun's just beginning. Enjoy it!

Jim - the church is 560 miles away - I'll be practicing around here. :)

Don't look now, Tom, but I think you've been had. I think you have a cheap copy of the 10D instead of the original made in Japan. Your 10D just doesn't look black enough. It's got an orange tint to it. Maybe Tom B was right. You should have opted for the red one instead.

He-he-he.

Congrats! Sure took it long enough, didn't it? Now don't forget, we want moving pictures of your SUV, too. After a couple of those, you'll be all set to take Daytona next month. :)

It's the S-400's fault - It has auto white balance, but no auto black balance. :)

Actually, that's the tungsten lighting - no flash used in that pic. S-400 didn't do a good job there, but I didn't alter the WB either. Too much of a hurry.

BTW, when, exactly, is Daytona? I may be in Orlando around that time.

Here's another one:

Depth of field is cool - I focused on the sideways "Canon" name at the left, and that's where it focused. Its going to be fun experimenting and getting feedback while I still remember taking the shot.

G'Bye, film!! :D

Oh great - now I'm forced to post silly meaningless pictures. Nothing much in the house to shoot. Here's another, with the 12 mm extension tube on the 28-105 lens:

Daytona 500 is on Feb 15, 2004 but it looks like there are a bunch of other events going on the week leading up to it.

Leo - Thanks. I'm not going to make the race, unfortunately. Then again, that would only make me want to buy "big white" lenses sooner. :P

Timmyquest - Yes, I read the manual. I downloaded the PDF last weekend. Now that I can work with it, I'm going to REALLY read the manual.

Daaaaaaaveman - I'll have something from the wedding to post. Be forewarned that this is a small, and not 100% formal affair, which is one reason why there'll be no pro.

Right now, its time to get ready for work. Then, I get to play. I'm going to photograph everything!! :D

NICE, way to go Tom, just watch out for these because once they end up mating with her, there is no going back, then they move into your house, run up your credit cards, they will even sleep in the same bed with you if you will let them. Enjoy it Tom you will LOVE it!

Just to add.. That 28-105 lens is a great little lens.. I think it's very underrated. It was my first lens and I've kept it as my mid range lens.. I've had no need for anything better..

If you want to make it look meaner, you can pick up a EW63-II lens hood.. Of course it's practical too. Helps eliminate flare :)

DON'T show me those big white lenses - my new baby almost saw them. To a 10D, the big telephotos are camera porn. My little "ten-D-ronie" is too young for that!!

I have the hood, believe it or not. Picked it up last summer after experiencing a little flair with my 70-210. I got hoods for both.

It is a good lens - I'll be keeping it for a while. I've got a few 8X10's and 8X12's that I took with the Elan and the 28-105. They're sharp.

Heh Heh! yes, I know that the spending just started. On the other hand, if I stuck with the Elan II as my primary camera, I'd still be looking at some serious spending. Over time, I'm sure that I'll have at least a couple of really fine lenses.

You're right about the folks here - they're top-notch. For the most part, they know their stuff about both the equipment and its proper usage. There's talent here, and that's why I hang around.

I'm with you there, but I'm likely to spend on the wide end right now. 28 mm isn't as wide as it used to be :) . I have a reasonably decent 70-210 f/3.5-4.5 right now, though I'm sure to find it woefully inadequate at some point (perhaps when "L" envy kicks in). It could use an extra stop on the "open" end, but it isn't too bad otherwise.

Realistically, this is a long-term project and good lenses are "forever". If I spend on high-end glass, I don't want to buy the same length twice.
