Here are a few of my favorite shots from the airshow at Little Rock Air Force Base. I had a great time, it was definitely worth the drive down. I would appreciate some feedback and please feel free to look at my gallery ( http://www.rarefbody.com/AirpowerArkansas2006/index.htm ). One question I do have is what setting does the metering need to be on to conteract the cloudy skies? Alot of my pictures ended up dark due to clouds. There is no processing done to these other than resizing. I will go back later and try to photoshop thema little later. I would really appreciate any suggestions.

John

Except for the airborne shots, level the horizon. As for dark planes, with clouds like that, you need to adjust, and shoot sometimes at +1 stop or more. The sky will blow out, but the plane will look fine.

Also forget ISO 400, ISO 100 all the time.

Adam-

Thanks for the info. I wondered about the ISO, but I was afraid of not being able to pan with them enough to keep them from blurring. What is the easiest way to adjust it to shoot the one stop over. I really am still trying to learn a lot of the stuff on the camera and don't know how to do everything I need to with it. I just knew to be sure and watch the shutter speed all though I still don't shoot quite slow enough for the prop aircraft.

Cool shots... I love airshows. BTW, did the pilot of that AWACS ever remember to extend his wings? :)

If you are shooting in Tv or Av mode you can hold down the "Av" button on the back of the camera and rotate the dial a few clicks to the right.

Nice Pictures!

I'm not sure what metering modes the Rebel has. Most of the time I shoot Tv, center weighted average metering, then just move the dial on the back of the camera for exposure compensation. The Rebel may work different than the 20D and 30D though.

Hey all thanks for the help. I feel kind of stupid now because after hearing you guys say that I remember having read it. I know the Rebel has the center weighted average. I had mine set on the evaluative metering. I will have to put these notes in my camera bag for next time.

All thsese look great. Im glad to see someone got some pics of that AWACS type plane going over the trees at the low level. I was there at the air show and was amazed at how low he was in comparision to the trees.

Did you happen to get any pictures that you didnt post of the old planes at the end by the helicopters? My grandfather owns the t-6 which I didnt see in your gallery.

I still struggle to comprehend the 117 as science fact rather than science fiction , it still looks unworldly:evil: short lived career too:(

Fluffybunny-

I did get a couple of pics of the T6 and I will get them online for you tonight. The shots of it flying aren't great as it was an overcast day. I will post links to the full size images.

Peacock-
I agree completely about the 117. It is an amazing piece of technology and I didn't know they were going to retire it until they said something at the airshow.

Sorry for the delay. I am having some computer/web space issues, but I have managed to get one up (the best one I got). I apologize as it isn't real good and I didn't take very many to begin with. Here is the link to the full size image.
