Can anyone help me out with problems taking photos of our new dog. The eyes always show the reflection of the flash. I can get round this by turning of the flash outdoors but in poor light or indoors it is unavoidable. Is there any way to correct the problem.
I am using a Canon A70.

Use an external flash, and bounce the flash off a wall or something, away from the dogs eyes. I read somewhere where somebody had done this with an A70, but I'm not sure how they synchronized the flash with the camera.
Another trick is to get a focus/exposure lock on the dog's face, then recompose your shot so the dog's face isn't directly in the middle of the frame. This can be hit or miss as far as minimizing the flash reflection, but I've had moderate success with it when I compose the shot from different angles from the dog's face.

Dogs are easy to get an eyeshine from. Their eyes can open up wide open. Best bet is to brighten the room (all the room lamps on, curtains open if during the day). Use a higher ISO to reduce the need for flash (though you gain video noise, so you may want to get green eyes instead, and paint it out..)
Also, you can use the wide angle setting and get close (though this will render distortion due to the wide angle...) this may reduce eyeshine, but perhaps not...
Red eye reductions scheme may work too.
For those numerous shots with eyeshine, just enlarge the image way up, and carefully paint over the reflection with a slightly fuzzy brush. Don't paint over any catch lights though!
Fails safe method is to only shoot pictures of your dog when it's sleeping! :)

you can use digital peanut slave to fire external flash. another way to avoid the eye of dog is simply put a white card in front of flash, not very close but distance should be enough that flash can illuminate the subject yet it can mask direct flash to eyes
