I am off to Canada next week and have been thinking of getting a new decent monopod. I was reading old messages on fredmiranda and saw people raving about the Ideesign quick release heads (http://www.ideesign.com/) which do look wonderful.
I know Roger has one - so what do you think of it?
Does anybody stock them retail in the UK or is there just the one mail order supplier?

Ian,
The Ideesign QTop head is absolutely beautiful. It is expensive - can't remember the exact price, but it was around GBP80 for basic system - one plate and one base - and GBP18 for each extra plate.
http://www.speedgraphic.co.uk/ is where I bought it mail order. It is the only UK listed supplier on the Ideesign. You cannot order on the web (just get prices), but I emailed them with my order and c/c details. The Order came into 2-3 days.
Cheers,

Thanks Roger,
In the end, based on the thread on FredMiranda.com I ordered one from Speedgraphic anyway. You are right that they are the only UK supplier. I had it in my hand less than 24 hours later.
It is indeed a beautifully made piece of kit: but I haven't used it in anger yet...

I've been looking this unit over for awhile now, but am still not clear how it would work on one of the ball heads I'm considering...either the Arca Swiss B1 or the Kirk BH-3.
I take it that because these heads come with Arca style platforms, the iDeesign would not work? If that's true, do you have any idea if one can remove the platforms from either of these heads in order to have the iDeesign Q Top work?
